What is a wine facial?
Wine facials, wraps, exfoliates and baths are all part of a new beauty therapy dubbed Vinotherapy. Many concoct their very own elixirs using wine (red, white or rose), herbs, fruits and other essential oils to pamper the skin and give it the targeted anti-ageing treatment.
The science behind it
The seeds, skin and leaves of the red grapes contain antocyanosides, polyphenols and procyanidols, which have been proven to have more anti-oxidant value than vitamin E. Wine, also contains natural AHAs, as well as germ killing and anti-inflammatory properties. We all know that wine is beneficial in fighting with aging by repairing collagen and flexible fibers, thus plumping out wrinkles and giving a boost to dropping epidermis. It also decrease skin and exfoliates dead cells.
A wine facial:
After an extensive cleansing and steaming of your face, a mixture of wine, herbs, fruits and requirements oils is used to your epidermis and rubbed in. The kind of bottles chosen relies on your type of epidermis (milder increased for sensitive skin). The cost factor relies on the place you go to. Once the massage is complete, your wine goop is properly cleaned out with cold water to close pores and a serum may be used to further lock-in the goodness.
A wine wrap:
A light complete massage with essential sebum is followed by a honeyed insert of wine, with fruits and vegetables or chocolate used as thickening agents. Next up is a soothing steam/sauna for the benefits to run into your skin and then it’s off to the shower.
Wine scrub:
This one is a periodic scrub and not for the sensitive-skinned. The remaining pulp of pips and mashed grapes skin from wine-making is used as a body scrub, with nice splashes of wine included for more impact. Once the cleansing or scrubbing is over, it’s time for some pleasure followed by steam/sauna and then a bath.
A wine bath:
Expensive (considering they pour wine in your bath water) — it is pampering for the senses. Wine and essential oils are mixed into your bath water and you are invited to have a long soak, accompanied, of course, by a glass of the finest wine.
